There is so much more to learn about each of these 23 things . My main goal was to learn as much about web 2.0 as possible, have fun, and to finish before CSLA starts web 3.0!

I work at an alternative school, and I feel that one way to develop rapport with my students is to understand how they use technology to communicate. I used my web 2.0 tools when I was in charge of creating a Yearbook DVD last year.I
I will continue to work on my blog, and read other library blogs. Our county office of education blocks my blog, Gmail, YouTube, and many other educational sites. Eventually I hope to work with our county office of education to unblock some of these valuable sites. I plan to continue to work on the the liblogary, and try to keep up with the latest web 2.0 tools for education. Our school bought IXL math, Brainpop, Discovery Education, California Streaming and Study Island. I was in charge of imlementing all of this software. I put each student into their class rosters, created passwords for teachers and students, and showed the teachers how to use the software. It took a while to figure everything out and I gained the confidence to do this with School Library Learning web 2.0.

Thanks so much to CSLA and to our CSLA cheerleaders who helped keep me going! I decided to finally finish everything before the CSLA conference which started today. I plan to attend the conference tomorrow.
See you tomorrow!

Kandice Goodman
Library Technician
Highlands Campus Library

Thing #22

I checked out the websites recommended for online books. I first looked at Google docs and was truly impressed. There were templates for letters to apply for college, cover letters for resumes, resumes, templates for business cards. I then realized that my district has blocked Google apps and gmail! What a tremendous disappointment. I explored zoho writer and am hoping that website is not blocked too. I think it has fewer useful templates but still could be used for teaching computer applications. I will post more about thing #18 when I check to see if it is blocked on our school computers.

Thing #16 Looking at Wikis

I looked at the wikis recommended. The first wiki was the SJCPL Subject Guides which is a pathfinder wiki developed by St. Joseph County . Public Library I checked out the Booklover's Wiki, which had recommendations which are also popular in my library.I took a look at the school library section of the blogging librarians wiki. The most interesting and useful wiki was the teacherlibrarianwiki. This wiki had some great open source resources. This wiki is a helpful booklist site. I found two teen websites with recommendations of books that I have in my library. I will direct my teen readers to these sites. I also gained some new ideas for books I would like to see in our library.

Thing # 15 Week #40

My Thoughts from the OCLC Next Space Newsletter "Web 2.0: Where will the next generation of the web it take libraries?"

Laptops, digital cameras and I pods for checkout? I love the new web 2.0 concepts for the future of our libraries. I am library technician for a School Library that has wi-fi but no laptops! The IT department is not at all open to allowing My Space or any social networking. They block Flickr, which could be used so creatively in education. .Even though our teachers would love to have You Tube for educational purposes, our IT department is so concerned about safety that they block it. Students are not even allowed to check email! I am just grateful that they don’t block blogs and Wikipedia! The collective intelligence from Wikipedia, and other wikis is also exciting for the future of research.
I want a student and teacher centered library where you can watch You Tube, post pictures on a Flickr account, create blogs and wikis, and even check your email. I would like for our students to have training on how and where to use Google verses electronic sources. I want to offer more online classes, and to try to understand all of the copyright issues that come with online classes and other web 2.0 tools. Reading the Horizon Report 2008, inspired me to encourage more creative uses of web 2.0 in education with digital videos, photo essays and blogs rather than having students writing long research papers.
I cannot relate as much to the three dimensional world of web 3.0 that Dr. Wendy Shultz describes, with “Second Life”, probably because I have not used any of those web3.0 tools, and I am still trying to understand the many facets of Web 2.0!
I enjoyed reading “To a Temporary Space in Time,” where Dr. Wendy Shultz paints a picture of a Web 4.0 library as a sanctuary, a quiet place of meditation, a luxurious experience, “away from the technohustle” with comfortable leather chairs and good light. Her description is close to the library of my dreams.

Week ? I looked at some other fellow library 2.0 bloggers. The Longhorn Librarian suggested checking out School Tube and I am happy it exists because we miss so much at our school by having You Tube blocked!
I looked at library genius and decided to add a dog to my avatar. I liked her Book Club ideas, especially the link to "Ten Ways to Really Spice up Book Club Meetings." All of the suggestions are not appropriate for middle school, but they are great for a group of adult friends, and some of the suggestions are great for middle school book clubs.
I checked out Library Musings and liked the avatar with a tree and a birdhouse. I liked that she was on #17 but also had skipped around. I have also skipped around a bit! I have listed my goals and one of the first will be learning to podcast book reviews from the middle school students at our library.Another goal I have is to eventually have a website for our library which has a link to the art created by our students. We all learn better when the experience is not stressful, so I hope to enjoy this learning experience. One of the obstacles will be time, but I think it will be fun ( 7.5) and I will find the time. For starters, I will need a microphone and some willing kids to podcast book reviews!
