Thing # 20 embed a you tube video
For thing #20 I decide to start with this really cool and funny video of librarians doing Gaga! I was surprised at how easy it was to embed a video.
Thing # 19 Looking at Library Thing
I signed up for an account with Library Thing. I cataloged 5 books into the system. Each book took a few seconds to catalog. If the economy declines even more, Library Thing could save a lot of money in a school setting as cataloging programs are pricey
.I added some of my personal books from my home library just to get a feel for how it works. it is a very user friendly website. The Library Thing account I set up is http://www.librarything.com/home/kandicegoodman

Thing #17
I went to PB wiki and to the sandbox to practice. I posted an idea on Calcurriculum connections that maybe a wiki would be useful for teachers to collaborate and exchange ideas for using some of the software at our school. One example is california streaming that is found at californiastreaming.org. This is a wonderful way to teach using streaming video clips . Teachers and staff could use this wiki to share ideas and review the best documentary videos.
Another use of this calcurriculum wiki would be to use as a book review wiki for students and staff.

Thing # 18
This week I have been exploring some free web based applications for students working on word documents and spreadsheets. I first looked at Google docs and was truly impressed. There were templates for letters to apply for college, cover letters for resumes, resumes, templates for business cards. I then realized that my district has blocked Google apps and gmail! What a tremendous disappointment. I explored zoho writer and am hoping that website is not blocked too. I think it has fewer useful templates but still could be used for teaching computer applications. I will post more about thing #18 when I check to see if it is blocked on our school computers.
